Escape of the Nahabedian brothers from Roumyeh Penitentiary
(L'ORIENT-LE-JOUR 8 March 1988)
We learn from judicial sources that the Nahabedian brothers, Raffi, Panos, and Hratch, convicted of having massacred five people while robbing a jewelry store, on March 28,1986, in Bourj Hammoud, escaped from the Roumyeh penitentiary, during the night of Friday to Saturday.
Apparently benefiting from some complicity, they were able to obtain a hacksaw which enabled them to saw off the bars of the windows of their cells from which they descended using knotted sheets and blankets. An investigation was opened by the prosecutor and the military investigative judge. Mr.Joseph Khalil and Elias Moussa, who had arrested nine police personnel for interrogation.
